Editorial Policy
SmartLiving aims to make consumer decisions easier to understand through sourced explanations, useful questions and clearly labelled examples. This policy describes the standards used for our guides. It is not a claim that unfinished articles have passed publication checks.
Evidence and scope
Each completed guide must identify its reader question and relevant jurisdiction, cite sources for important factual claims and explain material limitations. Original agency guidance and official documentation are preferred when they directly address the question. A source’s authority in one area does not establish every claim about a topic.
Current prices, rates, product features and eligibility rules require current evidence. If a number is invented to explain arithmetic, it must be labelled as hypothetical. Examples are not described as real customer outcomes, tested products or verified savings. We avoid unsupported rankings, guarantees and universal conclusions from one state’s or provider’s rules.
Bylines and review
Editorial desk bylines are organizational labels for our six subject areas. They do not represent fictional individual experts. AI-assisted editorial and source checks are recorded separately from technical validation. Passing a word-count or link test does not establish professional expertise, and no medical, financial, legal or technical professional review is implied unless explicitly documented.
Publication dates and archive labels
An archive date is an editorial ordering label. It is separate from the actual date a new article becomes publicly available. We do not represent a new guide as having been published months earlier merely because it has an earlier archive assignment. The visible actual publication date records when each guide first became public.
Corrections and updates
Readers can report a disputed passage with its URL and supporting evidence through the corrections process. A report is a request for review, not an automatic change. Material corrections should be explained where readers can understand what changed; ordinary formatting fixes should not be presented as substantive new research.
Commercial considerations
The website currently runs without advertising or analytics integrations. The presence of a source or a product name does not imply an endorsement or an affiliate relationship. Any future advertising or sponsored material requires an appropriate disclosure and separate implementation review. Our advertising policy describes the current state.
